I’m super-stoked to be planning a trip to Hawaii in a few weeks!!! With more people getting vaccinated – current data shows over 122 million people or 37% of the total U.S population have been vaccinated – domestic travel is bound to be on the rise this summer!
For your trip to Hawaii to work, you need to plan way ahead. One of the biggest decisions includes choosing which island (or islands) you’ll visit. Hawaii comprises eight major islands, though only six are possible to visit. While all have similar features, like stunning beaches and oceanscapes, each one also offers an array of unique attractions.
Give yourself plenty of time – a year is not as unreasonable as you think – to think carefully about the possibilities, thoroughly research your options, and plan your daily itinerary; yes, I’m that kinda girl 🙂
Novice and experienced travelers are always looking for inside tips and tricks, and advice can always be a big help. There are definite things to do and things not to do during a vacation. I’ve scoured the internet to compile these tips and tricks, help you blend into Hawaii so well, that you’ll be mistaken for a local!
Do’s and Don’ts for Visiting Hawaii:
Do: enjoy the natural beauty and breathtaking sites that the island have to offer.
Don’t: leave your trash behind when dining out, visiting a beach, or hiking. Keep the islands clean!
Do: find a few activities to take part in, and enjoy every single second that you can. Your vacation is short, so take advantage of your time here.
Don’t: wait to book any tour or activities. They sell out quickly.
Do: enjoy the casual atmosphere of the islands, where dress codes are virtually non-existent, and a good pair of slippers is really all you’ll need.
Don’t: leave your shoes on when visiting someone’s home. Notice the pile of shoes out front?
Do: feel free to rent a car and drive the island’s roads. This is a great way to discover your surroundings and find your way around.
Don’t: forget to be accommodating to other drivers. Let others merge, and a Shaka always means thank you.
Do: use your manners, smile, and be courteous.
Don’t: forget the Aloha Spirit!
Do: make sure you find great restaurants to try. The locally owned spots are the best and offer fresh, locally grown ingredients!
Don’t: be afraid to ask a local where to eat. Everyone has their favorites, so even if you have to journey to find the restaurant, it’ll be well worth it.
Do: make sure the place that you’re staying is to your liking and is accommodating to what you need.
Don’t: stay in your room or rental house the entire time! Get out and see the island.
Do: bring your swim attire for the beach.
Don’t: worry about bringing towels, sunscreen, and beach toys. You can grab that at a local store for cheap, and it’ll save you valuable space in your suitcase.
Do: ask around for the best place to enjoy the sunset.
Don’t: miss the chance to enjoy the sunset from the beach. The colors are incredible, and there really is nothing that can describe the mesmerizing beauty of the sun setting on another day in Hawaii.
