I visited beautiful Singapore during a 2 day layover on the way to Bali (to be posted soon). Long layovers are a great way to see a new City on a budget. You get two destinations for the price of one.

Singapore is one of the great cities of the world, with its blend of Asian and European cultures. Founded as a British trading colony in 1819, since independence it has become one of the world’s most prosperous city states and boasts one of the world’s busiest ports.

With its blend of old and new, colonional and contemporary, Singapore is a true wonder of Southeast Asia. Gleaming skyscrapers, luxury hotels, Instagrammable parks and boulevards filled with air-conditioned malls – Singapore truly has it all.

From dizzying rooftop retreats to wild night-time safaris, there’s no shortage of amazing things to do in this metropolis.

The Singapore Airport (SIN) is in itself an amazing attraction. In all my travels, this is one of my favorite Airports. They also offer free city tours if you have a layover over 6 hours. Check with your airline after you book.

Singapore is a very pristine and metropolitan city. The hop on hop off bus was an amazing way to see the city. For $32 you get a 24 hour pass with stops at all the tourist highlights. My favorite stop was the Botanical gardens. A feast for the eyes and very picturesque.

There is no shortage of high end shopping; you will find all the major designer shops in plenty so bring deep pockets! It is not a budget friendly city but definitely worth a visit. Marina Sands is a popular hotel with an infinity rooftop pool.

Little India was a culinary experience like no other; I indulged my Kenyan roots with some real chai (tea). All in all, I really loved my time in Singapore and would highly recommend you add this destination to your travels.
